Concerto Competitions for 2021 & 2022 were cancelled due to the pandemic. Big News : the 2022-23 concerto competition is on !! Deadline to apply is October 27th 2022, competition is Nov 5th 2022, and the performance with the Cowichan Consort Orchestra will be March 11th 2023. See our application form on this website. Open to “26 years and under” residents of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. So for example: if you are studying and living on the island like : at Univ. of Victoria or VIU or Royal Rhodes or Camosun, yes you can apply. Winner(s) receives a bursary and this performance opportunity.

Cowichan Consort Orchestra presented its annual Featuring Our Youth concert of the 2019 concerto winners.

In the 2019 year : Anna Betuzzi, oboe, won the Senior category, Evan Overman, trumpet, won the Intermediate, and Anjulie Djearam, voice, won the Junior category. All three winners performed March 2nd at 7:30 pm at the Christian Reformed Church at 930 Trunk Road in Duncan.

Anna played Mozart ’s famous oboe concerto K314, Evan played the ever popular Haydn  E Flat trumpet concerto, and Anjulie, soprano, sang the beautiful Laudate Dominum from Mozart’s Vesperae K339.  The Consort Orchestra rounded out the program with Haydn’s ‘London’  Symphony #104. Robert Mari conducted.

THEN Consort Concerto Winners for 2020 had their concert just before the Pandemic was announced, performing on March 7th 2020. Winners were announced into 3 categories once again as the performances were most remarkable ! Senior winner was Ayari Kasukawa, alto saxophone, Intermediate: Mai Ikemura, viola, and Junior: Keisha McKay, piano. Guest Conductor was Nathan Jacklin for the evening.
